Thailand Prepares for a New King

Thailand

With the U.S. 2016 Presidential elections wrapping up this week, many anxiously wait to see what the new regime will bring to our country. But American is not the only country preparing for an brand new leader.

Thailand’s beloved King Bhumibol Adulyadej died this year on October 13 after serving 70 years as Thailand’s King and head of state. At 88 years old, he was the world’s longest reigning monarch. For much of Thailand, he is the only King they have ever known, and his constant presence had been a stabilizing factor for the country. His reign ushered in a period of political peace and harmony and financial growth in a country previously known for her deep poverty and political turmoil. The Thai government has announced that there will be a year long period of mourning for the beloved King, stating,

“The reign of the King has ended and his kindness cannot be found anywhere else.”

Yet, while the country mourns, they are also preparing to welcome a new King. King Bhumibol’s son, Crown Prince Maha Vajiralongkorn, is set to be made King in December. However many are unsure that the sixty-four year old will be able to fill his father’s shoes.

Lese Majeste’ laws in Thaliand prohibit anyone in the country from speaking badly about the Royal family, particularly the King and Crown Prince. Yet, news of the Prince’s lifestyle has been reaching Thai citizens since the 1970s and many feel he is a poor replacement for his beloved father. Married and divorced three times, the Prince has been known for his extravagant and less than conservative lifestyle. How he will handle the responsibility of the crown is yet to be seen.

The Bible has much to say about the rulers of our world. In the Old Testament, we see the Lord support some kings and go against others. The truth remains that no matter what country we are in, the earth is the Lord’s and everything in it. (Psalm 24:1)

“All the ends of the earth shall remember and turn to the Lord, and all the families of nations shall worship before you. For kingship belongs to the Lord, and he rules over the nations.”

These verses found in Psalm 22:27-28 remind us that when the Lord returns, all the kingdoms and rulers of the earth will fade in the light of Him. He is our one true King, and friends He is coming back! So let us come together and pray for the rulers of our world. Let’s pray for this new King and our new president, that they would know the Lord deeply and would have the wisdom of Solomon. And let us watch with anticipation for our Lord’s coming.

Russia Proposes Removal of Controversial Baby Boxes

Baby boxes

Since the Middle Ages, “baby boxes,” have often been placed outside churches and hospitals, giving unprepared women a way to anonymously give up their child. Today’s boxes are much safer than they were hundreds of years ago. They sit full of soft blankets with an alarm inside that triggers the hospital when a baby is placed inside, instantly alerting caregivers to the new patient.

However, Russia has recently declared that it is considering a ban on the “baby boxes.” The UN Committee for child rights has recently condemned the boxes that are present all over Europe. They claim that the boxes encourage negligence, but some are worried that without the boxes, babies may be abandoned somewhere much less safe. Supporters of the “baby boxes” believe that the boxes have significantly cut down on the amount of infant deaths. Babies that are delivered to the boxes are taken care of and hopefully placed into loving homes.

However, opponents of the boxes believe that they encourage dangerous, secret, at-home births. Since the boxes encourage anonymity, many believe that girls are not even going to hospitals to have their babies, instead giving birth in unsafe conditions. The government is hoping by eliminating the “birth boxes” and setting up accessible family planning services, these dangerous births will diminish. They also hope to provide counseling and better social support for young women with surprise pregnancies.

At the same time, the Russian Orthodox Church has come forward with a petition to ban abortions from the National Health Insurance System. Currently, 90% of the abortions that take place in Russia are carried out through state clinics.

The pro-life vs. pro-choice debate has been a large part of this year’s elections, but it is clear that it is an issue around the world. And it’s not the only major issue being debated these days. What does the Bible say?

“Rescue those who are being taken away to death; hold back those who are stumbling to the slaughter.”

-Proverbs 24:11

“Then God said, ‘Let us make man in our image, after our likeness.'”

-Genesis 1:26

“But when he who had set me apart before I was born, and who called me by his grace.”

-Galatians 1:15

“Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your Heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they?”

-Matthew 6:26

No matter where you turn in the Bible, we see that God values life, even before it is born! He has a purpose and a plan for each of those precious little babies. Join us as we pray for those around the world who are making decisions on behalf of the unborn and the newborns. Pray for the new mothers who are scared and not sure what to do. And pray that all would see the value of life.

Hurricane Matthew Devastates Haiti

Hurricane Matthew

Hurricane Matthew seemed to come out of nowhere, but now, it is ripping its way through the Caribbean islands and heading straight for Florida and the Eastern Coast. While it hit Cuba and the Bahamas, the worst reported damage comes from Haiti.

It’s only been six years since the devastating earthquake hit Haiti, shaking the already poor country to its core. Country-wide, buildings were flattened and Haitians were left to live in tent cities while aid workers attempted to rebuild.

The rebuilding process has been slow; however, as Haiti is one of the poorest and least resourced country in the world, now it has been hit by the most powerful hurricane to hit the area in over a decade.

Entire cities have once again been flattened. One of Haiti’s primary cities, Jeremie, has reported that 80% of it’s buildings have been completely leveled. In the chaos, the reported death tolls have varied between 1,000 and 1,500 people. Communication has been difficult so who knows what the total will be when we get more word from those still in Haiti. The question is, with their infrastructure already so unstable, will Haiti be able to rebuild a second time?

As Hurricane Matthew leaves the shores of Haiti, it is barreling towards Florida and has officially been upgraded to a category 4, the second to largest classification for hurricanes. Cities across the Eastern coastline have issued mandatory evacuations – even Disney World, a company that has only officially closed its doors a few times since its creation, is saying that they will be shutting the gates and asking everyone to get somewhere safe.

Let us, as a ministry, join together to pray for those who have been hit but Hurricane Matthew, and also for those who remain in harms way. Pray for relief teams as they struggle to help in Haiti while the weather continues to be deadly. Pray for those who have lost loved ones and for those wondering where their family and friends are located. Pray for those along the East Coast who have packed up their families on short notice, unsure of what will remain when they return home. Pray that in the midst of all this chaos, people will come to know the peace that comes from the word of God.

We at World Prophetic Ministry will do our best to keep you updated as events continue to unfold and we hope you will continue to join us every day in prayer.

Italy Struggles to Recover From Yet Another Massive Earthquake

Italy

Several days after Italy was rocked by a massive, 6.2 scale earthquake, the country continues to search for missing people. So far many have been rescued, but over 290 people from smaller towns such as Amatrice and Arquata have been found dead. As the days continue to pass, rescue teams are worried the death toll will only continue to rise.

The town of Arquata held a mass funeral for 35 victims over the weekend. During the funeral, many citizens were overcome with grief over the loss of the individuals, many of whom were strangers. Tragedies often have a way of bringing people together, making them feel deeply for neighbors they have never even known.

The Prime Minister and the President of Italy attended the funeral as they made their way through the affected towns. For the people of Arquata, though there is grief, there also seems to be a shred of hope. Bishop Giovanni D’ercole attended the funeral and was quoted as saying, “Together, above all we will restore life to our communities, starting from our traditions and from the rubble of death.”

Relief teams, sent by the Italian government, are working quickly to provide temporary safe homes for the thousands who have lost their homes. The homes will hopefully be sturdy and warm enough to keep people safe and comfortable through the quickly approaching winter months. Government officials are hopeful that the rebuilding process for these villages and towns will move swiftly and the lives of Italy’s citizens will return to normal.

This quick response from Italy’s government has not satisfied everyone. In 2009, a huge earthquake devastated the town of L’Aquila and left a death toll of over 300. The Italian government has come under fire for failing to increase security measures and housing standards after 2009. While this is the case, historically recognized towns in Italy are not required to meet modern safety laws and it is mostly these old stone villages that are being hit by the earthquakes.

Nevertheless, the residents of L’Aquila are wondering where this quick response was after their tragic event. Seven years later, over 22,000 of the 70,000 displaced in 2009 are still unable to return to their neighborhoods. The historic town center which is supposed to house many of the displaced, has no completion date in sight, leaving thousands living in temporary housing outside of the city. For the people of L’Aquila, life never really returned back to normal and many are dissatisfied with their treatment by the Italian government. With money and resources being redirected towards towns like Amatrice and Arquata, who knows how long L’Aquila and other towns will have to remain in limbo.

Whether or not relief comes quickly or not, citizens of Italy aren’t likely to forget these earthquakes any time soon. A Polish nun who managed to escape from the rubble of a convent near Amatrice told reporters that she would always remember the “evil murmur” of the earthquake as it began to shake her home.

Join us as we pray for Italy. Pray for it’s infrastructure, its government, and its people as they mourn and attempt to rebuild.

As all this was happening across the world, our own state of Louisiana has been hit by the worst flooding it’s seen in years. So many have lost their homes and have lost family and friends. The floods are a sharp reminder that such disasters don’t just happen in places far away from us. They can come to our own front doors. Thankfully, we need not be afraid. We serve a God who knows all things and who has neither forgotten nor forsaken us. We can have peace in the midst of literal storms because we know He is with us and He is for us. The Bible promises us this and you have probably seen it played out at some point in your own life.

So as we pray for those who are suffering, let us also give thanks for His work in our lives and in the lives of people around the world!

Conflict in Kashmir Reaches New Heights

kashmir

For over 60 years, the disputed territory of Kashmir has been the stage for large scale violence between Pakistan and India. Both countries lay claim to the region and despite many attempts to settle the question of ownership, the territory still remains in limbo, with Indian military in place to police the citizens of Kashmir.

Kashmir has certainly seen its ups and downs. Over the last several decades, numerous extremely violent uprisings have left the state in despair. Majority Muslim most citizens identify with their Pakistani neighbors and either wish to join with Pakistan or become their own governing state. Yet, despite the violence, Indian officials refuse to release their hold on the territory.

Despite the growing unrest in Kashmir, the territory has remained largely peaceful since 2010. However, recently, a 22 year old fanatic named Burhan Wani fanned the flame of independence for the Kashmiri People and began a social media campaign that called for the state’s independence. Wani had supposedly joined the local militant group when he was 15. He quickly rose to popularity with the people who were tired of being held under India’s rule. Indian police forces responded to Wani’s cries for freedom by capturing and killing Wani’s older brother, claiming that he was on his way to join the militants. This only made Wani more determined to see Kashmir free.

On July 8th, 2016, Burhan Wani and several friends were cornered by the police in a village and shot down. Immediately the villagers rushed out and mobbed the police in response. Such mobs have been happening across the state since that day in what authorities are calling the most violent months Kashmir has seen in years. At least sixty have been killed in conflicts between the police and protestors, with thousands more injured.

State government is concerned about the violence, imposing curfew across the state. While there have been a few instances of mobs attacking the police forces, for the most part the casualties have been from the police attacking unarmed protestors. These casualties are only causing the people to want freedom from India even more, so the government is investigating the reports of excessive violence towards unarmed civilians.

It seems that the situation in Kashmir is worse than its ever been. The people of Kashmir want peace and freedom, but who knows if they will ever see that in this world. As believers we know that the only true source of peace and freedom is Jesus Christ. He has freed us from sin and one day, if we trust in Him, we will live with Him in complete peace.

Join us in the praying that the people of Kashmir would come to know Jesus Christ as the Savior of the world. And check out our resource page to find out more about what the Bible has to say about peace in the Middle East.

European Union Shaken By Violent Attacks

european union

This past week, several European Union countries experienced yet another wave of violence. A mall in Munich, Germany was attacked by an eighteen year old man who authorities believe had been planning the attack for more than a year.

The young man opened fire in the mall, killing seven and injuring 35. Days later, Munich continues to be in a state of caution, with many remaining in their homes. Although the Munich police believe that the attack was not driven by ISIS, recent attacks in Nice and Paris have left much of the European Union on edge.

Germany has been in conflict for some time over the refugee crisis. When floods of refugees initially began to seek asylum in various European cities, German Chancellor Angela Merkel was quick to allow refugees into the country. However, as the numbers grew, German citizens became increasingly concerned at the number of refugees and the lack of proper vetting. Since the attacks on Paris in November are believed to have been carried out by ISIS masquerading as refugees, many in Europe wonder where the next attack will take place.

The attack on Munich came on the heels of an attempted military coup in Turkey that left many dead and the country very unstable. Although the coup eventually failed, many are unsure of what the future holds for the cosmopolitan country. Straddling the lines between the Middle East and Europe, many believe Turkey to be a key location for the world. Where Turkey goes, so will Europe.

As we see these events play out on a global stage, it can be easy to wonder, “What is going to happen next?” As believers we do not have to be afraid of what is to come, but it is good to be aware! Check out the Middle East section of our resources page and see what the Bible says about what is happening in the Middle East and around the world.

Isis Training Children Fighters

child_fighters
child fighter

In a sickening development, it has been recently reported by several news agencies that ISIS is now training children to fight as assassins in their ever-widening religious war. This shocking information was made public recently as part of a new propaganda video released by the terror group. The 15-minute propaganda video, entitled “The Generation of the Epic Battles” is accompanied by a soundtrack of hypnotic music and concludes with the children; boys from Indonesia, Malaysia, and the Philippines, burning their passports. The video was recorded at a camp in the terror group’s stronghold of Hasakeh, northeastern Syria.

The video begins by referring to the boys as sons of terror group’s caliphate (A caliphate is the idea of a single world-wide government that is proposed by some Muslims). The video then offers footage of the children quoting the Koran and urging ISIS supporters to move to the “land of Islam,” insisting “our path is jihad.” Under the watchful eye of adult terrorists, the children step forward and fire their weapons; including AK 47 rifles and semiautomatic pistols. The rifles are nearly the same size as some of the children, yet frighteningly they are able to handle them with ease and skill demonstrating the serious training that ISIS has invested in these children. The children then are ISIS Training Child Fighters shown throwing their passports on the ground at which point one of the adult terrorists sets the passports on fire.

Shockingly, the use of children as agents of terrorism seems to be a growing trend with ISIS. This video was released only two days after a similar video released by ISIS’s propaganda wing in an attempt to lure French nationals to its territory, entitled “In the Footsteps of My Father” which shows two French speaking boys training with weapons and being given an education in the group’s fanatical interpretation of Islam. Equally disturbing is another ISIS video in which six children who appear no older than eight are each given a balaclava (face mask) and a handgun and sent off into the maze of a ruined castle in Syria to find, and kill, prisoners, who have their hands bound behind their backs, wait silently to be executed by the child assassins. All six boys are shown killing a captive in the disturbing video.

Sadly the Bible indicates that humanity – without a saving relationship with Jesus – is readily debased enough to carry out such actions as training children to become murderous terrorists. The war on terrorism is an ongoing conflict for our world. The bad news is it is not going to end – at least not anytime soon. The Bible teaches that this is a struggle that stems from the deep seated tensions that can be traced back to Isaac and Ishmael – almost 4,000 years ago! The situation will never end with peace until the peace of Christ reigns. To do that we must proclaim the Gospel to all the nations of the world, we must speak out against the evils and irresponsibility we see all around us, and we must encourage other believers to do the same. We have been commissioned by Christ Himself to make a difference in this world until He calls us home.

– PNL

Pray that the children being exploited as agents of terror by ISIS would be rescued out of that situation. Pray also that the civilized nations of the world would recoil in horror at this latest development and recognize ISIS for the world wide threat they are. Above all, pray for Christ to reveal Himself to those mislead by the propaganda of ISIS.

Bastille Day Attack Devastates Nice, France

bastille day

For the people of France, Bastille Day is the ultimate National holiday. Celebrating with all the pomp and circumstance, people gather every year to watch the parades and fireworks. This year was no different, especially in the Southern French city of Nice. Thousands gathered to watch the annual patriotic fireworks when suddenly, a lorry broke off the street and began to zigzag through the crowd. Stunned people tried to get out of the way, but the driver’s mile long rampage left at least 84 dead and many more wounded.

This would be tragic enough if it weren’t for the fact that it was just last November when Paris was hit by the deadliest terror attack France had seen. Now, a mere eight months later, France has found itself rocked by terror once again.

In recent months, IS fighters have continued to lose ground in Syria and Iraq and recent attacks in France, Baghdad, and Dhaka show that they are not happy about it.

But how did the attack in Nice happen? Authorities believe the driver to be a French Tunisian man who had lived in Nice for sometimes. IS spokesperson Abu Muhammad al-Adhani recently released a statement imploring followers of IS to plan civil attacks in their cities just like the attack in Nice. It is believed that the Bastille day attack was the driver’s response to al-Adhani’s call.

Witnesses said the lorry was filled with guns and grenades, but the driver made it only 1.2 miles before the police gunned him down, making them wonder what else he may have had planned. Nevertheless, his zigzagging through the streets made it impossible for the crowds to predict his moves and many were unable to escape him.

French President, Francois Holland has declared that the state of emergency, in place since the Paris attacks on November, will be extended another 3 months.

This attack came days after the deadliest suicide bombing on record in Baghdad which killed around 250 people.

Join us in praying for the families around the world who have lost relatives and friends around the world. The last few weeks have been a heavy reminder that we need the peace of Jesus in our lives!
