Threat From Russian And Chinese Warplanes

Repeated incidents involving aggressive actions by Chinese and Russian warplanes toward American military planes and ships is causing great concern that the situation could potentially escalate and draw the countries into war! In a developing situation which we have been keeping you updated on (See PNL Oct. and Dec. 2015), tensions between the United States and the nations of China and Russia have been increasing. Recently, China ordered the U.S. to end its surveillance patrols – which occur in international waters – around the contested South China Sea near the region of the Paracel and Spratley Islands chains. As evidence of the serious aggression of the Chinese, the Pentagon has recently acknowledged that two Chinese J-11 fighter jets “buzzed” a U.S. EP-3 military reconnaissance plane by flying within 50 feet of the U.S. aircraft in an “unsafe manner.” Air Force Gen. Herbert “Hawk” Carlisle, leader of the U.S. Air Combat Command, indicates this as an observable trend on the part of Beijing. Carlisle noted, “Their expansion into the Paracels and the Spratleys is so they can declare it and then have the capability to enforce it, where they can do intercepts.” He added, “They are doing it outside of what could be consider the norms.”

Similar behavior has been exhibited by the Russian military recently as two Russian warplanes buzzed a U.S. Navy guided-missile destroyer in the Baltic Sea in what a defense official called a “simulated attack profile.” As reported by a senior U.S. defense official to several major news agencies, The USS Donald Cook was conducting flight operations when two Russian Su-24 attack aircraft approached at an “unsafe” speed and altitude and buzzed the Navy destroyer as the helicopter was taking off from the destroyer’s flight deck. The Russian jets came within 1,000 yards of the destroyer, flying just 100 feet above the water. The defense official reported that the next day, a Russian jet flew within only 30 feet of the destroyer in one of at least twenty passes over the ship, ignoring repeated radio calls from the Navy destroyer. However, this is not the first such incident between Russian planes and this U.S. Navy destroyer. In April 2014, as the USS Donald Cook was in the Black Sea, Russian jets buzzed the destroyer in a similar provocative fashion. Similarly, doubtlessly in a move of intentional irony, on July 4th, as Americans were celebrating Independence Day, two Russian Tu-95 “Bear” bombers were intercepted by U.S. Air Force F-15s 39 miles off the coast of Mendocino, California.

This type of military aggression is frightening and troublesome but it should not be totally unexpected. The Bible makes it clear that there will be at least one more major – perhaps even “world” – war that will occur in the future as the last days approach. Consider Jesus’ dire warning in Matthew chapter 24 where He teaches that there will be “wars and rumors of wars … For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom, and in various places there will be famines and earthquakes” (Matthew 24:6-7 ESV). Likewise, the beloved apostle John was shown a vision of a future war as he received the Book of Revelation. Beginning in Revelation chapter six – which I believe records the events of the beginning of the Tribulation period – John recorded what he was shown concerning the future. The unmistakable event of war is found in chapter six, and continues to be a part of the unfolding events of human history until Christ returns in chapter nineteen (Revelation 6:2; 4; 11:7; 12:7;
13:4, 7; 16:14; 17:14; 19:11; 19:19-21).

While the exact timing of these events – whether they occur during first or second half the Tribulation period, etc. – is debated by sincere believers, it is obvious that Jesus indicates that a major world-wide war will occur in the future. Such posturing by the Chinese and Russian militaries could very well be a precursor to such a major world war as each of these nations has serious economic and political concerns they need to address. Sadly, all too often war is the only means by which unregenerate world leaders feel they can correct their difficulties. As such, we should be in serious prayer for this situation.

Pray that these situations would not escalate into a major war. Pray that key leaders of China and Russia would come to know Christ as their savior and realize that He alone is the only answer to the situations faced by their nations. Pray also for key leaders of the United States to come to a saving knowledge of Christ as well. Pray that Jesus will be exalted in international affairs as the true Prince of Peace.

ISIS Uses “drink-can” Bomb to Bring Down Russian Jet

Russian Jet- the king is coming

Russian Jet- the king is comingIn a further escalation of their demonic terror campaign, ISIS has claimed responsibility for bringing down a Russian jet over the Sinai Peninsula. The plane was making a routine flight from the Egyptian resort of Sharm el-Sheikh to St. Petersburg, Russia. According to ISIS claims they used a bomb hidden in a can of pineapple juice to bring down the plane killing all 224 people on board. As with the Paris attacks, ISIS claimed the downing of the Russian jet was in retaliation for Russia’s role in air strikes against the terror group, and other groups, in Syria. This attack represents a major escalation of the reach of ISIS as it is quite possibly the most catastrophic international attack ISIS has carried out. As such, the international community must begin to show serious concern about the potential of ISIS to carry out even more devastating attacks in the future.  The international implications of this event, as with the horrific attacks in Paris, must cause all nations to reassess the threat of ISIS. As the Associated Press has noted, the recent upsurge in attacks suggests that

ISIS is growing in its capability of reaching beyond its base in Iraq and Syria, an expansion that should have everyone concerned. In fact, there are frightening Biblical implications from such an expansion of terrorism as well. Consider these similarities; the Bible teaches that in the last days the Antichrist and the False Prophet will both be powerful religious leaders who will institute a universal world religion and reign for a period of seven years (Daniel 9:24 Revelation 13:12). Islam teaches that the Mahdi — a supposed redeemer of Islam — will institute Islam as the only religion on the earth and rule for a period of seven years. The Bible teaches that the Antichrist and the False Prophet will execute all those who do not submit to their world religion (Revelation 13:15). Islam teaches that the Mahdi will execute those who do not submit to Islam, and this is exactly what terrorist groups such as ISIS are currently doing! Thus, as Christians we must continue to pray for this situation. – PNL

PRAY: Pray that the Lord will open the eyes of those who are deceived by the false teachings of Islam and that the Lord would convict those who act out violently as a result of the false teaching of Islam. Pray for the leaders of the nations of the world to have wisdom and insight in dealing with the threat of ISIS. Pray also for the safety of all those who are being targeted by ISIS and other terrorist groups.

Putin Says Turkey Will Regret Their Actions

Putin says turkey will regret their actions

Putin says turkey will regret their actionsOn November 24th, a Russian warplane flying over Syria was shot down by Turkish F-16s. Today, Russian president Vladimir Putin has announced that Turkey will regret their actions.

The news of the crash came less than a month after the downing of a Russian airplane in Sinai by members of IS.

Russia has been sending warplanes into Syria for some time now, hoping to target jihadist militants from Islamic State. They are vocal allies of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad while Turkey claims to be against him.

The flight was shot down after Turkish officials warned the pilots 10 times that they were headed into Turkish airspace and asked to turn around. The requests were apparently ignored. The plane went down in the Jabal Turkmen area of the Syrian province of Latakia, an area of major conflict between the Syrian government and rebel groups.

Russia immediately suspending charter flights to and from Turkey, a move that is expected to greatly impact Turkey’s tourism industry. There has also been talk of limiting food imports from Turkey.

Nato (North Atlantic Treaty Organization) representatives have announced, “We stand in solidarity with Turkey and support the territorial integrity of our Nato ally.” Meanwhile, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has refused to apologize, stating that “everyone should respect the right of Turkey to defend its borders.”

President Putin does not agree. In his state of the nation address, Putin stated, “This was a stab in the back by the accomplices of terrorists. If anyone thinks Russia’s reaction will be limited to trade sanctions, they are deeply mistaken. We will remind them again what they did-they will regret it.” He went on to accuse the Turkish government of harboring IS militants. “We know who in Turkey is stuffing his pockets and letting the terrorists prosper.” Putin even went on record to state that the US, Turkey’s ally in the coalition against IS, had been given prior knowledge of the Russian warplane’s route and could have stopped the tragedy. US officials have claimed this is not the case.End-Times Wars

As we hear these statements and we see the news, it can be hard to know what is true. However, as believers, we do not need to be afraid! We serve a God who knows exactly what is going on and has had a plan since the beginning of time.

In his book, End-Times Wars, Dr. Hindson takes a look at what the Bible says about the wars to come. With all the turmoil around the world it is clear that we are heading towards the End-Times, and the Bible has a whole lot to say about the specific events of today.
