Unlike so many of his predecessors, President Trump has made a clear distinction between nations who support Israel and those who do not after he himself has pledged support to Israel. As we have reported previously, Trump’s recent move to acknowledge Jerusalem as Israel’s capital city has sparked global controversy. The government has announced that the U.S. embassy in Tel Aviv will be moved to Jerusalem.
Trump spoke of this decision in his first state of the union address yesterday. Regarding this decision, he said, “Shortly afterwards, dozens of countries voted in the United Nations General Assembly against America’s sovereign right to make this recognition.” In reaction to this backlash, Trump called upon his fellow politicians to reduce or cut off aid to these countries who refuse to stand with America and support Israel.
There is no doubt that this statement is polarizing, yet it also brings clarity to the world stage. Perhaps by taking these dissenting nations to task in this manner, the United States can hold the UN accountable and remind people that they cannot sit on both sides. “As we strengthen friendships around the world, we are also restoring clarity about our enemies,” added Trump.
The heart of the issue
If you’ve read Target Israel, you know that the book lays out the biblical reasons why Israel, and Jerusalem in particular, is significant to God’s purposes.
Here is an excerpt from the book that may shed some light on what is going on right now as nations argue over Israel’s place on the global stage:
“Israel’s very existence today, given the fact that the nation is surrounded by hostile enemies, can only be attributed to the protective hand of God in fulfillment of His promise in Genesis 12:1-3.” (page 120)
No matter who stands against Israel, God still preserves this tiny nation. Since this is the case, we should stand with them, not against. Please pray that those nations who have recently voted against acknowledging Jerusalem as Israel capital would have a change of heart and see what is really going on here.
